My name is Carlie Tibbetts and I am a 16-year-old with a passion for dance. I am currently in my last year of High School in my island home of Cayman Brac—the second largest island in the Cayman Islands archipelago.

I have never been someone to back down from a challenge, in fact as the eldest of twins, I was told I came into this world kicking and screaming, letting the world know that I had arrived.
​
Throughout my high school career, I worked with the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps, where I learned discipline, the value of teamwork, and how to become a leader. During that time, I also got involved with a local dance group named “Koalition” where my passion became more evident. It was in this forum that I could put what I
learned into practice.
​
I have since traveled to Grand Cayman to perform at numerous events such as Red Sky at Night—a CayFest event, Miss Teen Cayman Islands, the education department’s National Children’s Festival of the Arts (an annual inter-school talent exposition/competition), and other public events.
​
Ever since I was a little girl dance came naturally to me. I loved to dance. You could see me dancing anywhere and everywhere with no inhibitions. Dance quickly became my life. An outlet for my personal aggression, dance is a therapeutic act for me as I am able to create stories through movement and music.
​
Two people I look up to for inspiration are Michael Jackson and Chris Brown. Recreating the moves, I saw these two amazingly talented performers demonstrate on stage wasn't easy. I danced privately for what seemed like every day up until I was 13 years old, finally realizing that I had a serious talent.
While I feel that I have much to learn and I welcome criticism, I am determined to build and focus on developing my talent even further given the opportunity. WCOPA 2018 here I come.
